City job halted?
Asbestos Stop Work Order Removal for White Plains Owners and GCs
Paperwork, licensed abatement and air sampling done in the right sequence so your city project can head toward DEP sign-off.
A Frozen Job Needs Steps in the Right Order
Geography first: this is for jobs inside New York City. DEP posts asbestos stop work orders in the five boroughs, never in White Plains or any other Westchester town. Plenty of owners, landlords and builders who live or work up here have property and projects down there, though, and once a DEP inspector tapes an order to the door, everything halts. Orders tend to follow asbestos getting disturbed without the right paperwork or controls in place. Perhaps a crew opened a wall nobody surveyed. Perhaps flooring came up before anything was filed. Whatever the cause, getting back to work usually takes the same ingredients: correct filings, a licensed contractor abating whatever was disturbed, air sampling while the work happens and after, and sign-off from DEP. No honest contractor can tell you how long that takes, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can do is break the order down and handle it piece by piece in sequence. We read what the order says and see what got disturbed, figure out the filings, build an enclosure and clean the area up the right way, and line up the air sampling and records DEP expects. You know what is happening and why at each stage, and your GC knows what has to be done before the trades return.
Pieces of a Stop Work Order Cleanup
Each order reads differently. Most involve the following.
Reading the order
What it says, what got disturbed and what DEP wants to see next.
Inspection and sampling
The affected material identified and confirmed by an accredited lab.
The paperwork
Notifications and assessment forms prepared for the abatement.
Licensed abatement
Poly enclosure, HEPA negative air, misted strip-out and sealed sacks for the disturbed material.
Air sampling
An outside firm samples the air while we work and runs clearance once we finish.
Closeout package
Records assembled so the site can be put up for DEP sign-off.
How We Work Through an Order
Walk us through the order
Give us the city address, the work that was underway and what the order says. A phone photo of the posted notice helps.
Paperwork, then abatement
Filings go in first. Then the crew encloses the area and licensed handlers strip the material out while air sampling runs.
Clearance and closeout
Once cleanup and clearance air are done, we gather the records so the site can go to DEP for sign-off.
Why Owners Ring Us When the City Halts a Job
Sequence, not scramble
Filings, abatement and air sampling handled in the order DEP expects.
No invented deadlines
You hear what has to happen, not a sign-off date nobody controls.
One crew for cleanup and records
The people stripping the material keep the documents behind the closeout.
- Order reviewed
- Filings prepared
- Air sampled
- Closeout records kept
